Jade's Story...
This chapter in Jade's story begins several months back, before her 4th birthday. Subtle signs and symptoms are easily explained away as normal childhood ailments and development. A little tired and sluggish...she must need more sleep. Leg pains...must be growing pains. Otherwise, she's a normal, happy little girl. A trip to the doctor reassures that everything is okay, but it's not...
A return trip to the doctor at the end of April, prompted by another bout of severe leg pains, finally raises a red flag and merits additional testing. Her blood work comes back irregular. Something is very wrong. More blood tests, a bone scan and finally a bone marrow extraction. On April 29, 2011, Jade is diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia), the most common and fortunately treatable type of leukemia amongst children.
Jade begins her fight against this terrible disease. With her family by her side, she faces each day's battle with a smile on her beautiful little face. Blood transfusions, spinal taps, chemotherapy, a central line...Her courage and bravery are an inspiration to all who know her.
